Last night as I was driving to work, I could not stop my mind from thinking about the events last weekend, and how it has affected my life, our life. Without the radio in the car, with beautiful ocean views at every step, reflecting made even more sincere. There were encouraging words of a football coach, a spiritual reminder of our responsibility elders in our priesthood meeting, my personal revelation, as it is important to be a good example. But no case has touched me more than watching the funeral of our beloved Prophet.
On Sunday night our Laie Center North bet, we had the privilege of listening lessons to two humble servants of the Lord to speak of "Holding on to our standards." Stephen Kaufusi Coach and Coach Mendenhall of BYU Hawaii, finally convinced me that BYU Hawaii hopes in sports each year for one reason: "We are not looking for sports players." Coach Mendenhall went on to say that they are looking for young people who will not compromise their values and their high standards of the Gospel, without exception.
Back to Kahuku our elders quorum went through purification kind. In the past I did not expect going to the elders of the priesthood quorum during the meeting, but now I appreciate the efforts being led by new chairman took note of our young people who have just graduated from school. They teach lessons in English and Samoan. In addition, most of the elders who have been there for many years, was moved to the high priest.
In a letter to the Cava came, I had some sort of internal struggle, which is sometimes disappointing to me, mental and physical exhaustion. I understand that this is one Hawaii vice lessons that follows me around every day. I also understand that I am not alone in this battle, Tonga Chamber of almost rioted when the president Hafoka read the letter in their meeting. Old men threatened the president Hafoka and called his name. For me it was a question "What is more important?" Answer obedience. Of course there will be times when I give in this battle, but I realize even more that we all should be a light to the youth in the Laie Hawaii, but not easier. If I simply no longer linger in spiritual matters, not mundane them, the decision to not allow kava used to be a dramatic event every day.
When President Spencer W. Kimball passed away, it hurt me deeply. I felt close to him in his youth, and believed at the time that he would be the last prophet on earth. While eating at a restaurant near Kahuku high school I received a text from two Sundays ago, a niece and several boys about the death of our prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley, I felt very hurt and sad. Although I have not met the man I was influenced by his deep love for the Gospel, his love for the members of the Church and for humanity, his simple but penetrating words of counsel to be kinder, better people. He was a simple man who did the simple things are things the value and significance.
