Sports persons, have nowadays become one of the highest paid individuals, and are often considered icons as well as role models for the young generation of a country. This new trend, which came into the scene in 2004, when Roman Abramovich acquired Chelsea FC, Something that, has now made this reality even more apparent. These billionaires are willing to pump large amounts of money into transfer payments and salaries for talented players knowing it will pay off with eventually with success of the club, bringing silverware a bigger fan base, increasing club's revenue through purchase of tickets, and club merchandise such as jerseys, and recently huge television broadcast deals. Therefore, it becomes a win-win situation for the players as well as the owners. Well, for the owners of the clubs, they are usually elitist rich investors. However, the players pocketing these lucrative salaries are young men in their early twenties, sometimes even teenagers. And they pour the money faster than it comes –on sports cars, on model girlfriends and a huge chunk on beautiful pads that is houses, apartments, townhouses, ranches and the list goes on.
Most of these top sports performers have invested heavily in the state of art houses worth millions of dollars. These houses have been used as the measure of luxury in this century. It has become more of a competition with each player trying to oust compete with the other. This article just looks into some of these magnificent structures.
Taking Rafael Nadal, for example, since his teenage years, he has been reported to have bought a beach side house in the Dominican Republic. The property is part of a $ 180 million development comprising 1200 luxury homes. An 18-hole golf course set in 620 acres of prime land of coconut groves in the tropical archipelago set in the Caribbean.
Moving onto the next big-money earning boy, Wayne Rooney, he is one of Manchester United's lethal strikers. He bought his mansion in Cheshire and after months of renovation the Wild West themed house cost 3 million pounds sterling ($4.6million). The house boasts of amenities unthinkable for most 24-year-old fellow men (he was twenty when he bought it). To entertain himself in this monster of a house Wayne Rooney has a cinema, a tennis court sized kitchen which his wife Coughlin loves to cook in, pink tiled bathroom complete with gold plated initialed taps and toilet seats, swimming pool, paved sun terrace. You must have had enough of indoors. Outdoors it boasts six acres of manicured lawns.
Well now let's go to the Americans. They say America is the land of big cars, people, dreams and most importantly the houses. And who's bigger than Shaquille O'Neal? Well it was his at least before he put it up in sale. The house built in 1992 has a price tag of $22.5 million. Well deservedly so. Located in Miami Beach, this eight bed roomed monster has a gym, an indoor basketball court, a steam bath and sauna. Just outside 2.5-acre grounds, there lies a parking garage with a six car capacity, a tennis court, not to forget a magnificent guest house with two bedrooms.
Yes, now you get it. I know you have always been wondering why sports personalities are so 'spoilt', but now phenomenon is unraveled. All this luxury and pampering are the best recipe for spoiling people, and trust me on this, that all you can get from a sports person's crib.
