There are many fantastic things about New York City but my favorite thing is probably the food. And I don't just mean the many excellent restaurants, although they are quite a treat! I also mean the excellent markets for local (and often organic) produce that you can find all over the city. What follows are seven of the best places in NYC for buying local produce.

1. Union Square Greenmarket is located on Union Square West at 15 St. to 17 St at Park South and open Monday, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays between 8AM and 6PM year round. The Greenmarket was founded in 1976 as a way to provide small family operated farmer's access to the consumers in the city. The market features over a thousand varieties of fruits and vegetables, artisan cheeses, yarn, pretzels, perennials and baked goods. Many vendors accept Food Stamps and EBT cards.
