Once you have your dreams and goals sorted out and know where you're going, you can move to the next step...
Visualization.
Calvin Coolridge said "A picture is an intermediate something between a thought and a thing."
Visualization is the process of creating a mental picture in such detail that it seems real, as if it has already happened.
Close your eyes and think for a moment of a fire truck. You have seen a fire truck before so pulling up an image of one within your mind shouldn't be difficult. But how clear is that picture? Can you picture the red paint, the ladder at the top, the lights?
For most people picturing something, even something they've seen, clearly and quickly takes practice. You have to train your mind to see these things in such detail that it's as if they're really there.
It's no secret that how quickly you can visualize what you want and the clarity with which this is done directly corresponds to how quickly you achieve your goals. The more clearly you can visualize the way your life will be once you've achieved your goals, the easier it is for your mind to find opportunities to make it happen.
It's like wanting something as a gift. If you never tell anyone you want that you may still get it but the likelihood is much lower than if you'd told them.
Your mind works through problems and possibilities all the time. Think of the last time you went to bed puzzling through something that you couldn't quite find the answer to. You fall to sleep thinking about it and awaken in the morning with answers running through your mind. Even if that didn't happen it likely wasn't much longer before you came up with some solution that you hadn't thought of before.
This is why visualizing what you want before you go to sleep is such a powerful tool. You take this already incredible power and consciously put it to work on the things you want. Do this every night before you go to sleep and your mind will continue to work on it throughout the night.
Have you ever sat through a scary movie? You know it isn't real, but when the monsters appear suddenly you still jump and your heart races.
The reason is because even though you know it isn't real when watching a movie you suspend belief and once you do that your mind no longer makes a distinction between reality and pretend. You literally become part with the movie.
That's all visualization truly does. It suspends your belief and allows you to get what you want because in your mind you already have it.
