No boating trip can be fun and happening without your complete family. And to enjoy the voyage truly, you need to take care of some basic safety precautions. • The first thing that needs your consideration is whether your baby is physically ready for the boating trip or not. According to the coast guard safety regulations, your baby should at least be 18 pounds to take a journey on boat or any other floating device. Normally, this weight is achieved in babies when they are four to eleven months old. It gets more feasible for you if the child is able to sit up by that time. As for the babies who are younger than this and can’t sit on their own should not be taken along on boating excursion.
• Once you get clearance to take your baby along, make sure the baby wears a safety floatation device. It is better not to remove the device when the boat is moving. Check if it fits him well. After putting on the suit, hold him by his shoulders to see if the baby’s head slips through. This indicates that the vest is too big for the baby. If you search through the market then there are safety vests available that will surely prevent a baby’s head from going under water.
• Besides this, you need to protect him from sun rays. So you should use a proper sunscreen to protect his delicate skin. Use sunglasses to protect the delicate eyes of your child from the bright shining sun. The eyes are going to get the most of the sun’s harmful rays so use a brimming hat to further protect them.
• These were all the pros but there are also some cons that need your attention when on the boat. Never strap your baby in a car seat or any other thing that cannot float. Rather, it is better that the baby remains in someone’s lap most of the time while on the trip. Moreover, the adults who carry the baby should also wear safety vests.
• Babies and other young kids on board should remain under constant supervision of one person or the other. Leaving them alone can be your biggest mistake that cannot be reversed.
• Never plan a boating trip with your baby when the weather forecast is not for a calm weather. Surely you do not wish to regret your decision. If you are an adventure geek then better plan it without your baby.
• And last but not the least; never forget to take first aid kit along. Another valuable tip is to be prepared to deal with any emergency situation. For this purpose you can learn to give CPR in case of any mishap or tragedy on the trip.
