Nearly all people do not realize of it, but when you are in a car accident there are a couple of things you can do to speed up the procedure for getting any owed damages. If you're able to do so, make sure to immediately write down the names of everybody involved in the accident, along with their names and phone numbers, immediately after the accident occurs. Make sure the police have been called and gather the info about the officer on the scene. The officer should never give you any difficulty about getting their name and badge number.

It might be wise to sketch a quick drawing of the accident scene, including any positions of the automobiles at the time of impact and where they wound up. Also, check around the accident scene to see if there were any potential witnesses nearby. If your motor vehicle is being towed, get the name of the towing company and the place to where your vehicle is being towed. If you can, take pictures of the accident scene. Usually, the police on the scene will take footage but it might be wise to have your own.

It's very important that you contact an accident lawyer right after the accident, before dealing with the other driver's insurance carrier. At the scene you will need to give the police your statement, but immediately, write down your version of the accident, without dropping any details.

You will additionally need to contact your own insurance provider, even if you're not at fault. Contact the police department working with the accident investigation and when it truly is ready, get a copy of the police report. Be sure to keep all records of the crash, including the police report and any available photos in one place for easy reference and keep them safe until such time as the accident and all related damages have been mitigated.
