Homeowners are today in a position to conserve the environment while at the same time having organic backyard gardens and healthy lawns. It all has to do with the cycle of garden soil. Most home gardeners appreciate the time and effort it takes to keep a garden and a turf going. Resources are also spent on water supply and garden supplies. If maintaining the garden soil consumes more resources than it produces then it is not energy efficient. The plant cycle is a natural cycle which gardeners should try to emulate. The balance is attained when household green waste is deposited at recycling depots and garden Supplies are delivered from green recycling plants. This also means that the garden supplies are purely organic and have not been exploited from natural resource which is a plus for the environment.

Gardeners can further contribute to the recycling process by separating their organic waste from other household waste as this will be used in the making of recycled garden supplies. When starting a new garden or installing a new turf, it is important to note the type of garden soil that best suits the plants and the climate also. Flowers and vegetables need garden soil that is rich in humus and they also need toppings and garden mulch. Turf also needs garden mulch to keep the soil from dilapidating. Using turf clippings as mulch is not enough, it is better to order garden mulch that has been composted for weeks which will rejuvenate the garden soil faster. The garden mulch is affordable since it comes from large scale recycling. To further save on water consumption and maintenance it is advisable to install drought resistant varieties like Sir Walter turf. This type of turf only needs watering once a week thus contributing further to environmental conservation.

One should also consider the environmental impact of other household supplies like firewood. This should be sourced from firewood plantations or from naturally fallen trees. The home use of the firewood should also be efficient such that only dry wood is used for burning. Firewood should be stacked for drying a few months before use. To make a difference in the environment separate your green waste for disposal to recycling plants. When these firms convert the waste to useful garden soil and garden mulch, it completes the recycling circle since they will be used back in households.

The process of recycling waste involves composting of green matter in order to produce various types of garden supplies and garden soil. Composting on a large scale such as dig in compost allows for good use of factory space and for economies of scale on blending materials. Recycling green waste involves turning green matter and manure for natural aerobic decomposition. Once this vegetative matter is dry and odorless, it is ready for mulching purposes such as for veggie gardens and flower pots. The garden mulch is not only good for providing soil nutrients but is also aesthetic and reduces water loss from garden soil through evaporation. The final decomposition of the mulch leads to a fine grade humus which when blended with sands or ground stone it will be usable as garden soil such as loam or light clays.
