MMA fighters are allowed one option in body protection, MMA gloves. Career fighters understand the need to apply the proper ones to the correct situation. The fabric and materials that make them up are specifically designed to absorb impacts. This absorption serves to protect the fighter during practice, training and fights.

By applying hand wraps and protective glove items, a fighter can support the hands as well as the thumb and wrists from any impact injuries. The hand has many small bones in it, that when damaged and broken can be the source of the end of an MMA fighter's career. A break common for fighters is actually known as a boxers break.

Many things should be taken into consideration when purchasing the proper gloves. Selecting the correct glove for your hand size and activity will help to reduce the chance of injury. Many in the MMA industry suggest that buying new ones is necessary. Saving on equipment cost is nice, but not at the cost of injury due to an old or faulty item.

One type of glove is the bag glove. Bag ones are manufactured with different materials, to provide different levels of protection for this type of strength and endurance training. Since some fighters only use the bag type on heavy bags, while others use different styles of bag glove items depending on the bag size, it is a personal choice as to what you use. In general, practice on heavy bags or other equipment require bag glove items for protection.

The training glove products are often referred to as practice or sparring ones. They are specifically created to be used outside of the octagon. They should only be used during practice sessions. The reason for this is that they are created with less impact resistance than the fighting type and should not be considered to provide the same level of protection as they are created specifically for taking harsh impacts.

Fight glove items are designed to reduce the impact of strong punches that are thrown inside the octagon. Most often, fighters to enter the octagon also have hand wraps on under their glove protection. The combination of hand wraps and the fight type serve to allow the fighter to apply maximum impact with minimum damage to their own hands.

The last option in glove products are hybrids. Just as their name implies, they fall somewhere in between the other glove types. Although they can be a bit more versatile in size and comfort, hybrid ones should never be a replacement for genuine fighting ones. There are not many exercise and training activities outside of the octagon that hybrids cannot stand up to.

Since the only option in protection that an MMA fighter has is their glove protection, they should always take great care in choosing them. One should thus take care to buy the best possible ones. To help prevent injuries to the hands, fighters often wear hand wraps under their glove items. On this notion, be sure to take along your hand wraps when shopping for new ones. Failure to do so will result in you purchasing some that are too tight fitting, once the wraps are applied beneath.
