Choosing a Botswana Safari for Families
A Botswana Safari can be an amazing experience, if done the right way!
If elephants are your passion, we know the right camps to send you to where you can experience intimate encounters with these gentle giants allowing you to ride, walk, play and learn with them in ways few people ever do, all while staying in luxurious accommodations surrounded by the African wilds.
A canoeing safari through the Okavango Delta's crystal clear waters gets you close to wildlife as they come to drink at the waters edge. Sit around campfires under the magical African starlit sky.
Other adventurous activities include boating along Chobe River in Chobe National Park or walking with a private guide into the wilderness in search of wildlife onto the smaller islands in the Okavango Delta and Moremi Wildlife Reserve.
Open safari vehicles in private concessions get you close to all sorts of wildlife including wild dog, lion, leopard, cheetah, rhino, and other plains game.
Magnificent Wildlife on Safari
There are numerous parks throughout Botswana that all offer exceptional wildlife. When we design your Botswana Safari based on your travel style and comfort level we include a variety of parks in your itinerary. Below are descriptions of some of the popular parks you can visit while on safari in Botswana:
Okavango Delta
The Okavango is the largest inland delta in the world, its labyrinth of lagoons, lakes and channels covering an area of almost 7000 square miles. Its spectacular annual flood peaks in July and the Delta's wooded islands and open grasslands surrounded by the parched Kalahari are a magnet for wildlife and it one of the great game destinations in Africa.
Chobe National Park
Chobe is a 4700 square mile reserve fronting the Chobe River in northern Botswana. It is the center of a larger network of protected areas stretching into Namibia and Zimbabwe and includes the famous game areas of Serondela and Savuti. It is renowned for its massive concentrations of elephants and buffalo, and the predator who hunt them, during the June to October dry season.
Moremi Game Reserve
Moremi Game Reserve covers 2000 square miles of the eastern portion of Botswana's Okavango Delta. Its combination of woodlands and seasonally flooded plains and marshes supports huge herds of game. This natural bounty, and its low density tourist traffic, makes Moremi one of richest and most pristine reserves in Africa.
Linyanti Reserve
The Linyanti Reserve lies along the Linyanti River adjacent to Botswana's Chobe National Park about 40 miles northeast of the Okavango Delta. It is famous for its outstanding predator action, high end safari camps, and low density tourist traffic which give the area a true wilderness character.
Savuti
Savuti is a famous game area in the southwestern section of Chobe National Park. Its core is the Savuti Channel, which when flowing, brings water from the Linyanti River to form Savuti Marsh. The marsh's water and nutritious grasses attract large numbers of grazers and predators throughout the June to October dry season.
Makgadikgadi & Nxai Pans
Makgadikgadi & Nxai Pans form an enormous flat landscape of salt pans and grasslands which forms part of the Kalahari Desert. May to November the area is dry and largely devoid of game but December to April the desert springs to life as rain showers bring fresh grass and huge herds of grazers and the predators that hunt them.
Where to reside on a Botswana safari ?
A family in Botswana safari offers a wide selection of accommodations to choose from. If you are looking for luxury we have a choice of camps including your own suite with private plunge pool. For the more traditional type of safari in Botswana you can stay under canvas in a specially modified luxury tent, including all private amenities such as bucket shower and flush toilet. For the real adventurer you can literally sleep under the stars, a Botswana Safari can be tailored to your specific requirements.
