Flokati is a traditional handcrafted material that can make some wonderful rugs and throws for your home. Each Flokati rug is made from hard-picked natural wool fibres which are woven together to create a very warm and thick product. These rugs feel very soft and comfortable underfoot and can add a real sense of luxury to your room. Because Flokati rugs are handmade using real wool they have a lovely natural finish which will look great in any home décor scheme. Whether you have wooden floors, carpet or tiles a Flokati rug can provide a lovely decorative feature and will help to soften hard surfaces for a more comfortable and cosy feel.

Caring For Flokati Rugs

Flokati rugs have a deep pile which can trap household dirt and grime. It is a good idea to vacuum the rug regularly and you should use a low setting and try and vacuum with the nap of the carpet. If you brush against the nap it can drive dirt down into the pile which makes it harder to remove. Most Flokati rugs have fringes so try and avoid sucking these up into the vacuum when you are cleaning the carpets as this can loosen and damage them. If your rug is a manageable size you can also take it outside and give it a good shake off. It is also a good idea to beat the carpet as well a few times on each size as this is one of the best ways to open up the fibres and remove any dust or dirt that has worked its way deep into the pile.

You should rotate your rugs a few times every month as this will help to create a more even wear pattern. Try to avoid placing the rugs in areas with direct sunlight as this can fade the colours and damage the fibres. If you do want to put the rug near a window draw the blinds or shades to help protect your investment.

Removing Stains

If you have a stain on the carpet it is best to treat it as soon as possible. If the stain is fresh then gently press clean paper towels to soak up most of the spillage. Do not rub as this will force the stain further into the pile. Now you can use a gentle wool carpet cleaning product (this should have no enzymes) to gently sponge away the stain. If the stain has dried then you may need to treat it a few times before it can be removed effectively but do not try and scrub it away as this could damage the fibres. For serious stains it is best to seek professional cleaning advice.

Backing

Rugs can be worn from underneath as well as on top and this is caused by friction against the surface they are placed on as people walk over them. This is a particular problem if you have an uneven or hard surface. To extend the life of your Flokati rug is a good idea to choose an option with a backing already in place. Backing will also help to prevent the rug from sliding or wrinkling. You can always buy lining from all good retailers.
