In the modern day, you may have heard many people complaining about migraine headaches as they have become a very common occurrence. They can cause intense pulsing in one area of the head and might make the sufferer feel nauseous, induce bouts of vomiting and can cause increased sensitivity to sound and light. So what causes migraines? This type of headache is caused by the enlargement of blood vessels, which causes the chemicals to be released from nerve fibers that occupy the large arteries of the brain. The pain becomes intense when these nerves are stretched and the chemicals cause inflammation to enlarge the arteries. One of the main causes for these types of headaches is the drop in levels of serotonin due to which the blood vessels get widened.
You must also know that not all migraine headaches are the same as the symptoms vary between the different types. These headaches can be caused with an aura as well as without an aura. Aura is a sign that tells headache is about to begin. However, the number of people suffering from migraine with aura is less. In case you experience wavy lines, dots or complete loss of vision, it implies that you will be struck with a migraine. These auras are hard to explain as some people even experience changes in the way they smell. A migraine without an aura is something that is experienced by many individuals. They consist of moderate to severe pain on one side of the head which can be aggravated due to excess physical activity.
Many people around the world are victims to migraine headaches, which rob them of their quality life. If you tend to suffer from this type of headache, you will feel irritated with the slightest of noise around you. They can start during childhood or when a person is young adult. Some people tend to suffer from migraine on a regular basis. There is this term known as the premonitory phase which is often the first indication that a migraine is about to strike. During this phase, you will experience food craving, just a strange feeling or somehow know that you will be struck with a migraine.
Although there are no cures known for migraines, there are possibilities which can bring the headache under control. One of the first steps for prevention is to know what starts the migraine. It is advisable that you keep a daily track of your headaches as you could determine that headache is caused because of the stress levels or probably eating some kind of food. There are many medications available for migraine treatment. You can contact your doctor and he will prescribe something as per your condition. By engaging in regular yoga sessions or sports, you can keep migraine headaches away. They can help improve serotonin levels which can lead to migraine relief. It is also important that you avoid smoking and drinking as they will only adversely affect your health and cause migraine.
