The Great Britian Silver Britannia was initially issued by the Royal Mint in 1997 and is Great Britain's biggest and purest legal tender silver coin. It is fashioned in .958 Britannia silver which is an alloy comprised of 95.8% silver and 4.2% copper. This coin is assured to inhibit one full ounce of silver. The 2011 Great Britain Silver Britannia coin's reverse illustration depicts the icon of Britannia seated along with a trident and a shield at the heart of a billowing Union Jack.

The model was fashioned by David Mach and is reminiscent of the proverbial appearance of Britannia which has been featured on British coins ever since the 17th century. On the obverse portion of the coin is the profile of Queen Elizabeth II which was created by Ian Rank-Broadley. Inscribed on the foot is the coin's value of "2 POUNDS". Over the queen's picture are the words "Elizabeth II D G REG DEF" which is the abbreviation for a latin expression which means "Elizabeth the Second, Reigning by the grace of Gog, Defender of the Faith".

Queen Elizabeth the second ascendent to the throne in 1952 and there have been four portraits created for usage on the British Common-wealth coins. The most contemporary picture of the queen was produced by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998. In the depiction, Queen Elizabeth II is depicted wearing the tiara which was given to her as a wedding gift by her grandmother, Queen Mary. In accordance with a tradition dating earlier to the seventeenth century in which successive royals look toward alternate directions on the coinage, the Queen is shown facing to the right.

Britannia, which is the British correspondent of Lady Liberty from the United States of America, is the female embodiment of Great Britain. She has served as an influential rallying point and countrywide emblem to the British people for centuries even if her origins are in reality Roman instead of British. The Roman empire began a capture of the island of Great Britain in AD 43 and established a realm that they called Britannia.

Britannia was the given name of the province's newly established goddess and was often depicted on the area's fine art and coins as a helmeted female fighter. Reborn as a nationwide icon for the duration of the resurgence, Britannia made her first appearance on an english coin in 1672 and has habitually been depicted holding Poseidon's three-pronged trident which is a demonstration of English maritime reign in the 17th century ever since then.

The 2011 Great Britain Britannia silver coin weighs 32.454g, has a diameter of 40.00mm, a thickness of 3mm, and is composed of .958 silver and 4.2% copper.
