Fishing for bass is one of the fun forms of recreation enjoyed by thousands all across the country. A lot of anglers enjoy getting out of town and being on a lake to relax. For them fishing is just an excuse to get away. But there are others who take bass fishing very seriously. They are not just out fishing, they are out catching. They want to catch the most fish and most of all the largest fish. For these anglers here are some tips that will help land some of the monster Bass.

The most important part of catching monster Bass is finding them. You can have the best equipment, bait, and techniques but if you are fishing in an area where there are only small fish, then you will only catch small fish. Large Mouth Bass have the ability to grow rapidly into the 20 lb range if they are provided with the right conditions.

The conditions that bass grow best in include having year round temp of 65° to 85° F. There are few, if any places in the country that offer that narrow temperature range; however, there are places that offer more days of the temperature than others. Most of these ideal temperatures are found in the Southeast United States, specifically Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida. States like Arkansas, Kentucky, and Tennessee are close enough that they have many days where the water can be in that temperature band.

The abundance of food for the fish is another environmental requirement for having large bass. Bass are solitary predators who love to eat chad, bluegill, sunfish, perch, shiners, and other bass. They also eat worms, crawfish, frogs, small snakes, and even mice. If there is any area that has lots of these foods, there will be big bass. Most of the bass, as well as frogs and crawfish, live in shallow water where they can find food. If there is a grassy or weedy bottom along with clear, clean water and grass or brush around the banks that should give the bait fish what they need to thrive in the water.

Good cover is also a necessity for big bass. They need a place where they can hide so they can ambush their prey. The ideal place is a fallen tree or exposed tree roots. They can hide in these areas and just sort of blend in with their surroundings. If there is plenty of grass and weeds to further hide them and also lure the bait fish in close, it is even more conducive to faster growth.

Once you locate an area that meets these requirements you will most likely find big bass. Now the challenge is to actually find a fish. One of the best ways to do this is with a fish locator. There are several companies that make good fishing locators. They include Garmin, Hummingbird, and Lowrance. Each one has its own features and advantages. The important requirement is they can find fish in the conditions where you are fishing and tell you how big the fish is. These tips will help you find the monster bass and then once you find them, to catch them. As you can see it takes a little bit of planning and research but the results will be well worth the effort.
