The Uttar Pradesh was formerly known as the National Province. It is situated in the north of India. It is the most populous state which has contributed 8.34% to India's total GDP in the financial year 2010.With a total are of 2,43, 290 square kilometers it covers a large part of the densely populated Gangetic plains. Geographically, it shares borders with Nepal and many North Indian states. Lucknow is the capital city. It is considered a sacred place as there was birth of lords Rama, Krishna, Parashurama and other deities who led to the formation of Hinduism. On April 1, 1937 it was christened as the United Province which was later called as Uttar Pradesh in our national language.

Tourism flourishes in this state with the presence of the Taj Mahal and the splendid Agra Fort. The Taj is a manifestation of true love and the magnificent fort implicates the architectural intelligence present in the olden days. Allahabad is known for its religious significance of the Kumbh Mela which is held once in twelve years. It is also a site where there is a confluence of the three holy Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati which is popularly known as the Triveni- Sangamam.

The deer park in Sarnath is a place where Gautama Buddha taught principles of Dharma to the world. The capital city Lucknow is located along the serene banks of River Gomati. It has a rich historic past of culture and poetry which played a major role. Varanasi is located on the Ghats of holy river Ganges. It is the oldest city which is known for Hinduism and Buddhism. The Kashi- Vishwanath Temple, Annapurna Temple, Kalbhairav and the Mrityunjay Mahadev are the various pilgrim places. There are abundant temples to visit here.

Uttar Pradesh is India's most populous state with a population of over 190 million people. Uttar Pradesh is bounded by Nepal on the North, Himachal Pradesh on the northwest, Madhya Pradesh on the south, Haryana on the west, Rajasthan on the southwest, and Bihar on the east. Wheat, rice, sugar cane, apples, mango, pulses, oil seeds and potatoes are the main crops of Uttar Pradesh.
Tourism is very prominent here as there are a number of religious places with great significance and the Taj, Agra fort have interesting history to watch. The big Kumbh Mela attracts lakhs of people from various states in our country and it has created quite a stir with international tourists too.
The winter months from October to March are best suited to visit the state as the summers are dry and tiring due to extreme temperatures. Commuting is not a problem as we can by road, rail or air.
