Uttarakhand is referred to as the "Land of Gods" due to its many temples. Uttarakhand tourism is renowned for its beauty, peaceful atmosphere and snow topped Himalayas. Uttarakhand became an Indian State in the year 2000. It is located in the northern part of India.
Nature lovers will find Uttarakhand to be a paradise. It is scenic and immensely beautiful. Tourists can enjoy trekking, skiing, rafting, angling, paragliding and parasailing among many other activities. Most visited destinations in Uttarakhand include Mussoorie, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dhanaulti, Auli, Nainital, Almora, Ranikhet, Bhimtal and Corbett.
Mussoorie is a tourist's delight for its natural and breath taking beauty and for the many interesting places that the hill station has on display. Mall road is a prominent tourist hangout and tourists can enjoy walking the path and visiting the many bakeries, curio shops and restaurants while taking in the surrounding natural beauty.
Kempty falls is another popular picnic spot, located fifteen kilometers from Mussoorie. Just five kilometers away from Kempty falls is Lake Mist which has been developed into a tourist spot and offers great places for picnics. Many small waterfalls near the Lake make it a magical sight. The Mussoorie Lake is also another enchanting spot from where the views are simply breath taking during the night. Visitors can also enjoy Bhatta falls, Mossy fall and Jharipani fall and go to a bird sanctuary, Van Chetna Kendra to spot rare and exotic birds.
The popular hill station of Nainital is situated in the picturesque Kumaon region around the lake Naini. Seven mountains or the Sapta Shring surrounds the city and makes it a wondrous spot of natural beauty..Apart from its scenic beauty Nainital is famous for its scented candles.
Ranikhet meaning "The Queen's Field" is believed to be the spot which wooed Rani Padmini, Queen of Raja Sudhardev and she chose this scenic spot to be her chosen place of stay.It provides an excellent and breath taking view of the snow capped Nanda Devi, lush green forests and rich flora and fauna.
Haridwar is a holy city and is known as the Gateway to the Gods, Haridwar is considered one of the seven holiest places according to Hindus. Here pilgrims light diyas on the Ganga, to commemorate their deceased ancestors. The city also stands as a gateway to three other important pilgrimage destinations: Rishikesh, Badrinath, and Kedarnath. A great statue of Shiva at the fork of the river is another attraction.
Corbett National Park is a popular tourist spot in Nainital.It is named after the famous hunter turned conservationist Jim Corbett. It is covered in dense forest and has an exotic array of wildlife. One of the best ways of exploring the park is on the jeep or elephant safaris that take place daily in the early morning and afternoon. The park also has a tiger reserve.
Uttarakhand is also very popular for religious pilgrimages. Some of its famous pilgrimages include the Char Dham yatra, Panch Badri Yatra, Gangotri-Yamnotri yatra and Adi Kailash yatra.
Uttarakhand is well connected by roads, rails and air. It also offers luxury and budget accommodations.
