Although first aid courses are in abundance, they are certainly not all the same. This is not a decision that should be taken lightly, what you do or don't learn could mean the difference between saving a life or not. Whether you are looking for first aid training for you or your entire team, there are 10 important questions you should ask.

1 Is there anything that needs to be completed before beginning training?

There are some first aid training providers who require you to complete some type of material either by book or online prior to attending the course.

2 Is Your first aid training course accredited?

Although there are many courses to choose from, not all providers are accredited in the country where they are providing training.

3 How large is the class size?

To get the most out of a first training program, it is recommended to choose one with a smaller class size. This allows you to ask the questions you need to without being hurried or feeling intimidated.

4 Do I receive CPR experience?

CPR, otherwise known as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is something mot people are familiar with from watching movies or televisions but few know how to perform it correctly. There is no point taking a first aid training course if you won't be performing physical compression on a dummy partner. Chances are, if they don't offer this in their course, they are probably not accredited.

5 Is there a book included with the course?

While some first aid training courses may appear to be cheaper, they often require you to pay for your book separately. It's important to find out this information ahead of time.

6 Will you be surprised with a hidden cost for anything?

Additional costs could include books, laminating charges for your certificates, credit card fees, parking, etc. Be sure you know of all fees ahead of time so you can make educated decision.

7 When will the certificates be received?

In some cases, certificates are needed right away. This is especially true for employees starting a new job in certain professions. Some providers take as long as six weeks before issuing certificates.

8 Is there a minimum number of attendees who must register?

Some courses will not be given until they meet a minimum number of enrollments. It's important to find this out ahead of time, especially if time is a factor.

9 Is there support offered after the course?

Many people walk away from the course confident that they have learned everything they need to know but a large percentage find themselves with questions after. Will the provider you choose be available to answer these questions after the fact?

10 Is there an annual reminder service offered?

You have enough things to remember in your busy life without having to keep track of when certificates are set to expire. Find out if the provider will offer a reminder for renewal.
